Guide to Circle Sawn Wood Flooring

Tags: Flooring

At Marks Lumber, our number one selling product is our circular sawn wood flooring. With years of experience manufacturing circle sawn Douglas fir flooring, we consider ourselves the experts in style and quality.

The key to achieving our beautiful circle sawn flooring starts in the forest. We select only the highest quality Douglas fir logs to ensure a beautiful and durable end product. From there, we take the time to dry, grade, plane, and end-match to create a product unmatched in appearance and quality.

Durability

Marks Lumber’s circular sawn wood flooring is made from Montana-grown Douglas fir. Inland Douglas fir is known to be a remarkably durable softwood due to its high density. In addition, our circle sawn flooring is slightly thicker than usual at 13/16” thick, making it an excellent choice for high-traffic areas.

Our circle sawn wood flooring is authentic, meaning that it is produced using a unique circle-saw head rig rather than retextured from a smooth product. This rough texture provides excellent shadow and color variation, reducing the visibility of minor scratches and making it the choice wood flooring for dog lovers!

Endless Styling Options

Marks Lumber’s circle sawn flooring comes completely unfinished, meaning the possibilities are endless when it comes to stain options. Leave it natural and just apply the sealant and finish to showcase the unique blend of warm reds and light yellows that Douglas fir is known for, or stain it to the color of your liking. Either way, the contrast in tones will pop through and provide beautiful color variations that are sure to catch the eye.

Estimating and Purchasing Wood Flooring

Determining how much flooring you need is the first step you should take when considering new floors. This will help us get you the most accurate quote possible so you know what to expect when it comes time to place your order.

To avoid any unexpected costs, it is important to measure the space you are covering accurately. List out each room you want to purchase flooring for and calculate your square footage for each. You can subtract out any permanent fixtures that you will be laying flooring around, such as kitchen counters, or you can leave them in and use them as part of your waste factor. At Marks Lumber, we recommend adding about 5-10% waste to ensure you will have enough for your project.

If you are building and have a floor plan available, send them to us or stop by. We will do a takeoff for you and provide a detailed quote to get you started.

Installation

Proper installation is critical to ensuring your wood floors last. One of the most important steps in the installation process is letting the wood acclimate. Proper acclimation allows the wood to dry and adjust to the moisture levels in the surrounding environment. We recommend letting the wood acclimate for 10-14 days in the home before installing. Once acclimated, you can move on to installation. You can find a detailed set of installation instructions here.

Refinishing

Wood flooring, like anything else, requires some maintenance. If you notice your circle sawn wood floors are constantly dull or lackluster in appearance, it may be time to refinish your floors. To refinish your wood flooring, empty the room of furniture and deep clean the floor. Lightly rough up the finish with sandpaper. Deep clean again and reapply the same finish. It may take a few coats, but this will help protect your flooring for many years to come.

At Marks Lumber, we are the experts in circle sawn flooring, providing wood floors to homeowners and builders across Montana and the entire U.S. Contact our qualified sales team today to learn more or get a quote.
