All across Montana, you’ll find great old barns with rustic board and batten siding. Marks Lumber’s circle sawn board and batten siding – made of Montana inland Douglas fir – is the perfect option to create a classic, farmhouse feel.
What is board and batten siding, exactly? Board and batten siding is a type of exterior cladding that features wide vertical boards with narrower strips, called battens, covering the seams between the boards. This design creates a layered, textured look that is both functional and decorative.
Despite being originally used on rustic outbuildings, today wood board and batten siding can achieve a wide variety of design goals including contemporary, farmhouse, or mountain modern aesthetics.
Marks Lumber’s board and batten comes with a full dimension circle sawn board, and an S1S2E batten that is ¾” x 2 ¾”. Battens are sold in bundles of 10 pieces.
Our board and batten is made from Montana inland Douglas fir, a highly durable and attractive species, and is milled on site at our sawmill in Clancy, Montana. It’s manufactured to order just for you, creating a unique, high-quality product every time.
Choose from our non-toxic wood finishes for low-maintenance protection of your siding.

Apply finish before installation. It is important to make sure wood is protected on all sides and edges, whether or not they will be seen. This will help avoid cupping and splitting, and also ensures there will be no unfinished spots peeking through when the wood inevitably shrinks and swells.
While there are many great products you can use that will provide protection for your wood siding, we recommend using Ecowood Treatment and Ecostain for exterior projects. This non-toxic, durable treatment comes in 5 different colors. We’ll even pre-dip your siding for you!
Making sure your wood siding is clean is one of the best things you can do to help extend the life of the product. We recommend using Perma-Chink’s Log Wash once a year to protect and maintain the natural beauty of the wood.
